The many faces of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

Omega’s Seamaster line, introduced in 1948, which also includes the Aqua Terra and the Seamaster Diver 300, has long become legendary among sailors, divers, and watch enthusiasts. In 2005, Omega launched the most recent offshoot of this popular collection: The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean. This wristwatch continues the company’s tradition of dive watches through the combination of modern technology and contemporary design.

Although the line is pretty new, the Planet Ocean can already be considered a modern classic. The watch is brimming with technical finesse: It is watertight up to 600 metres, is equipped with an ingenious helium release valve, and its Omega movement features a patented co-axial escapement. The sealable helium valve at the 10 o’clock marker fulfils a vital role by allowing helium atoms to escape from the case during a saturation dive – not to mention that it also makes for a very distinctive visual characteristic.

The cases of newer models are also equipped with a transparent sapphire crystal bottom: a feature that is very unusual for a dive watch, which makes it all the more stunning nonetheless. The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is a robust watch with an assured sense of style. The line offers an immense selection of sizes, wristbands, colours, materials, and additional features. The only parts of the Planet Ocean that remain forever unchangeable are the characteristic arrow-shaped hands. While the pervasive sense of sportive elegance remains constant for every style, it is due to the diversification of the line that both ladies and gentlemen can find the perfect Planet Ocean model for every occasion.

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

In 2005, Omega launched a new collection within the Seamaster series: the Seamaster Planet Ocean, which combines state-of-the-art dive watch technology with timeless design.

Thanks to the sturdy case that is watertight up to 600 metres, the Seamaster Planet Ocean can withstand high levels of pressure during deep dives without any problems. The clearly arranged dial with its striking arrow-shaped hands allows for perfect readability and renders the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean the ideal watch for everyday wear, fit for every occasion.

As stylish, robust, and reliable as the Planet Ocean is, it is no surprise that the watch was chosen to accompany the most famous secret agent in the world on multiple missions. The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M (Ref. 2900.50.91) appeared in “Casino Royale”, and the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M on a steel bracelet (Ref. 2201.50.00) proved to cut a very sporting figure during wild chases in “A Quantum of Solace”.

Another highlight of the Planet Ocean collection is Omega’s dedicated James Bond model, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M Skyfall (Ref. 232.30.42.21.01.001), which comes in a unique design that evokes the iconic style of the film hero.
