Rolex 116234: Datejust 36 with white gold bezel

The Rolex reference number 116234 stands for the Datejust 36 in the stainless steel alloy Oystersteel developed by Rolex. The watch's bezel is the classic fluted bezel in 18-carat white gold. Though both watches have the same diameter, the Rolex 116234 has a wider case unlike its successor, reference 126234, which was introduced in 2019. This Rolex is a perfect choice for those who do not want to do without the classic Rolex Datejust 36 even if it has a larger wrist circumference.

At CHRONEXT, you can get the Rolex 116234 and many other references from the Geneva-based manufacturer at attractive prices and for immediate delivery. The Datejust collection gets out of stock fast as it is one of the most sought-after watches in the world and is also a smart investment depending on the reference.

The reference number explained

The reference numbers used by Rolex have always followed a specific scheme. This means that with the appropriate specialist knowledge, not only the specific model can be derived from the reference number, but also some of the characteristics of the watch. The numbers of reference 116234 encode the following:

  • Six-digit reference number: Since the 2000s Rolex has gradually introduced six-digit reference numbers. These references follow the initial four-digit and later five-digit reference numbers and, above all, stand for perfect workmanship.
  • "11" at the beginning: The "11" at the beginning indicates that the Rolex 116234 uses a movement from the second-to-last Rolex generation - calibre 3135. For comparison: In the latest Datejust references, calibre 3232 works; the reference number of the corresponding successor model is 126234.
  • "3" in the penultimate position: the number placed in the penultimate position stands for the installed bezel. A "3" means that it is a fluted bezel.
  • "4" at the end: The last digit indicates the material used. The "4" stands for a material mix of stainless steel (case and strap) and 18-carat white gold (bezel).

A potential collector's watch

When Rolex introduced the six-digit reference numbers, the Swiss manufacturer did not increase the case diameter, but rather made the cases wider. This was Rolex's clever way of following the trend of larger watches without "inflating" the diameters. Over time, however, the proportions were brought back into line with the old proportions.

The watches with wider cases were produced for a limited period and are, therefore, potential collectors' watches whose value is not expected to decrease. Additionally, these models – including the Rolex 116234 – are an excellent option, especially for wider wrists: this classic watch does not look too small on the wrist.
