Omega Speedmaster Gold: From 1969 to today
After receiving NASA certification in 1965, the Speedmaster accompanied the Apollo 11 astronauts on the first moon landing four years later. That same year, the very first Speedmaster Gold was launched - in honour of the astronauts' extraordinary achievement. This dedication shows the outstanding status that gold watches enjoy. Whether Omega Speedmaster Gold in vintage or new: the watches are secret picks for connoisseurs and enthusiasts that are still available at attractive prices.
At CHRONEXT, you can obtain a huge selection of gold Speedmasters at attractive prices, including a guarantee of authenticity. Our certified CHRONEXT watchmakers inspect each model extensively for authenticity and quality before it is released for sale. We guarantee this with our 24-month warranty.
Limited edition watches and special editions
The first Omega Speedmaster in gold (Ref. BA145.022) was produced in 1,014 pieces, of which the first 32 were delivered to the (Vice) President of the United States, 26 NASA astronauts and four managers. To this day, Omega sells the Speedmaster gold watches mainly as limited editions or rare special editions and relies on limited availability. The reason for this is obvious: a toolwatch developed as a racing watch and used for NASA missions is typically made of robust stainless steel. The gold finish, on the other hand, makes a Toolwatch something very special: the Omega Speedmaster Gold is either a collector's item or a luxury item.
While the classic Moonwatch has a hand-wound calibre, the Swiss manufacturer added an automatic variant to the Speedmaster portfolio for the first time in 1971 and launched the Omega Speedmaster Gold Automatic. Since the collection is not limited to modern stainless steel models, you can now buy many Speedmaster automatic watches in gold. The models available on the market are: - Speedmaster Gold Reduced (e.g. Ref. 175.032 or 175.033)
- Speedmaster Gold Triple Calendar (e.g. Ref. 175.034)
- Speedmaster Gold Broad Arrow (e.g. Ref. 3653.80.33)
- Speedmaster Gold Co-Axial (e.g. Ref. 318.104.22.168.02.001)
- Special material mix: Omega Speedmaster gold/titanium
The Biel-based manufacturer Omega is known for its modern watchmaking art. This is already clear from the advanced in-house calibres with Co-Axial escapements and METAS certifications. Another point where the pioneering spirit becomes clear is in the materials used. For example, many of the gold alloys already come from Omega, such as Moonshine or Sedna gold. In addition to full gold models, you can also buy bicolour versions. One of the most interesting Speedmaster versions in gold is the Omega Speedmaster Gold/Titanium. It consists of a combination of titanium and gold - scratch-resistant and light. A very special version is the Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI 45th Anniversary (Ref. 322.214.171.124.06.001), of which only 1969 pieces were made.
