Tudor Diving watches
From the Submariner to the Heritage Black Bay
Tudor has been a subsidiary of Rolex since 1946 and has been able to successfully establish its own name with the creation of striking diving watches and chronographs. Presented in 1954, the Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner is considered to be one of the most popular vintage watches from the brand – the price of which exponentially increases with each passing year on the second-hand market. It goes without saying that the Tudor Submariner models from the 1960s enjoy cult status among watch collectors and enthusiasts.
The concept behind the Tudor Heritage line is to revive popular vintage models and adapt them both in terms of design and mechanics to suit modern preferences. Therefore, tradition meets innovation in the Tudor Heritage Collection. Distinctive vintage elements are fused with modern aesthetics, culminating in the Heritage Black Bay.
The Tudor Heritage Black Bay was presented for the first time in 2012 as a tribute to the Tudor Submariner from the 1960s. The name "Black Bay" is reminiscent of a hidden cove with mysterious secrets that can only be discovered through brave and unyielding exploration. The classic Submariner models have inspired the functional Black Bay timepiece, which is fitted with modern and contemporary components.
The design of the Tudor Heritage Black Bay
The Heritage Black Bay stylishly plays with the design of the classic Tudor Submariner. Many elements of the Heritage Black Bay have been inspired by the original diver's watch from the brand, including the curvature of the sapphire crystal and the distinctive crown tube. The large crown and crown tube are composed of stainless steel and feature the characteristic Tudor rose. Additionally, the “Snowflake” hands are borrowed from the classic Submariner and stand out thanks to their unique shape. The indices, just like the hour markers, are fitted with luminous material and thus guarantee optimal readability.
The Heritage Black Bay owes its robust capabilities to its polished and satin-finished stainless steel case, which measures 41-millimeters in diameter. The diver’s watch ensures solid waterproof capabilities up to 200 meters and is powered by an automatic movement. The Tudor Heritage Black Bay is not only the perfect companion for divers but also sits perfectly on the wrists of the general watch-loving population.
Award-winning design and sophisticated technologies
The Heritage Black Bay Models
All of the Tudor Black Bay models are supplied with two straps. Individuals are presented with an option between an elegantly crafted leather strap that is fastened with a safety clasp or a sleek bracelet that is comprised of stainless steel. In addition to the client’s leather or steel preference, the watch is supplied with an exquisite black fabric strap that is fastened with a buckle.
The Heritage Black Bay collection is also equipped with a red (Ref. 79220R) or a blue (Ref. 79220B) bezel.
/The Heritage Black Bay (Ref. 79220R) was presented in 2012 and features an elegant interplay of burgundy and black-brown tones. It is hardly surprising that the Tudor Heritage Black Bay caught the attention of the committee of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève soon after its introduction. Furthermore, the wristwatch was awarded the Revival Watch Prize a short year after its presentation to the market. The Bordeaux red bezel of the timepiece harmoniously complements the matte dark brown tones of the dial, as well as the rose gold luminous hour markers.
/The Black Bay Ref. 79220B was introduced to the market in 2014 and features contrasting design elements compared to its relative model that was launched in 2012. A revelation in blue and black, the watch exudes a certain cool factor that perfectly harmonises the remarkable design of the diver’s watch. Furthermore, the timepiece is reminiscent of the deep blue waters – the mysterious and uncharted territories of which are still waiting to be discovered. The distinctive night blue shade of the Heritage Black Bay is not only found within the stainless steel bezel, which can be rotated in one direction, but can also be witnessed again on the crown tube of the timepiece. Furthermore, the 2014 Heritage Black Bay presents sharp contrasting elements with silver hour hands and indices that stand out from the matte black dial of the watch with a luminous iridescent glow. The design of this Black Bay version is also representative of Tudors association with the military, since the brand provided timepieces to the French Marine during the second-half of the 20th century. This Black Bay model is comprised of a robust steel watch case that measures 41-millimeters in diameter. Furthermore, the watch can be optionally fitted with interchangeable wristbands.
