Baselworld 2018 - Which luxury watches have the longest waiting lists?

Baselworld 2018 - Which luxury watches have the longest waiting lists?

Nils Rau

Baselworld 2018 is over and, as every year, the waiting lists for new products at the fair are long. Rolex has unquestionably introduced the most sought-after watches, first and foremost the Rolex GMT-Master II "Pepsi" - but demand for the new models is hardly less strong among Omega, Nomos, TAG Heuer, Tudor, and many other manufacturers. Numerous Basel watches are already in demand at CHRONEXT. We have selected the six most coveted luxury watches from this year's Baselworld for you. Find out more here!

1. Rolex GMT Master II

The new stainless steel Rolex GMT-Master was released at the same time as the white gold version but with a small update. Since Baselworld, the 116719BLRO is only available with a blue dial. Anyone who has experienced the blue tone in real life will have noticed how much of an impact it made. The dial appears a little duller than on the other Rolex models and, despite its somewhat more colourful appearance, the watch remains pleasantly restrained. No wonder the new Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi in white gold is one of the most sought-after watches - and the waiting list is long! The model is said to be available from summer 2018, for the Sea-Dweller "Single Red" last year, delivery was even delayed until September 2017.

2. Nomos Autobahn

Whilst there were already many rumours about most of the manufacturers in advance, Nomos first revealed the secret at Baselworld. The result is the Autobahn - a watch with a design that is unique, atypical and somehow powerful. The watch with the striking illuminated ring is equipped with the 3.6 mm high DUW 6101 automatic calibre and can be worn comfortably despite its diameter of 41 millimetres. In 26 years of Nomos, the Autobahn is now the 13th model series. All three variants of the Autobahn are extremely popular with CHRONEXT and can be delivered in three to four weeks - second place therefore goes to the Nomos Autobahn.

3. Tudor Black Bay GMT

In addition to many haute horlogerie models, this year's Baselworld 2018 was dominated by everyday watches. Many of the newly introduced watches are ideal as "daily rockers". This also applies to the Tudor Black Bay GMT: The watch comes with a well-dosed portion of heritage style, a manufactory movement and a Pepsi bezel. Nevertheless, the watch remains quite inconspicuous. Together with the GMT and date display and a water resistance of 200 metres, the watch is suitable for practically all everyday situations. In addition, the Black Bay GMT not only cuts an excellent figure on steel straps, but also on leather, Nato and Perlon straps. It would be hard to find a better overall package for everyday life. The model is not yet available, despite regular inquiries - according to Tudor this will change in June 2018 at the earliest - we will inform you here as soon as we know more! 3rd place for Tudor in the ranking of the most coveted watches after Baselworld 2018.

4. TAG Heuer Carrera „Tête de Vipère Baselworld 2018“

One of the major highlights of the fair was the TAG Heuer Carrera "Tête de Vipère Baselworld 2018". Limited to just 155 watches, the Carrera watch has a dark blue ceramic case. Inside the watch there is a tourbillon and a chronograph function. Taking into consideration these horological complications, the list price of 18,500 euros is more than fair. All watches are also equipped with the exclusive French test certificate "Tête de Vipère". The movement - which has already been switched on - undergoes a 16-day test for this purpose. Thanks to the dark appearance of the watch, the 45 millimetre watch is comfortable to wear. This watch will only be available in about 6 months after March 2018.

5. Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch "Dark Side of the Moon" Apollo 8 - "Baselworld 2018"

On December 21, 1968, the Apollo 8 astronauts took off into space. To mark the 50th anniversary of this space mission, Omega is launching the Speedmaster Moonwatch "Dark Side of the Moon" Apollo 8 on the market. The biggest highlight is the 1869 caliber, which is a specially decorated version of the 1861 caliber. Using laser ablation, the movement was decorated on both sides so that it resembles the surface of the moon. The highlight here: through the skeletonised dial, you can see the brightly shaded crater landscape from the front, which resembles the moon's view of the earth. Through the glass case back, however, one sees a darker decoration, which is supposed to represent the dark side of the moon.

6. TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf „Baselworld 2018“ Special Edition

In collaboration with Gulf, TAG Heuer launched the Monaco Gulf Special Edition at Baselworld. The watch features the typical Gulf blue and orange stripes on the dial and the Gulf logo. To match, TAG Heuer has dispensed with the traditional logo and added the historic Heuer logo to the watch. It is precisely these details that make this Monaco model so exciting. These also include the beautiful sunburst of the blue dial and the classic positioning of the winding crown and chronograph pushers to ensure the best possible timing control.
