Tudor continues to focus on the themes of heritage and steel-gold at this year's Baselworld. The new Black Bay models show that the Swiss manufacturer continues to lend its watches that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’. We were able to take a close look at the new releases and are delighted with the charm of the watches. Read ahead as we introduce you to the new Black Bay watches!
Black Bay Bronze Slate Grey
The Black Bay Bronze has gotten a new colour called "Slate Grey". The grey tone of the matt and fine-grained dial is difficult to capture in photographs, but corresponds to a pleasant and warm grey that appears a little brighter or darker depending on the angle you view it at. The colour gradient is particularly impressive: The grey is darker at the edge of the dial and becomes lighter towards the centre of the dial. The effect is slightly reminiscent of the Fumé style. The aluminium bezel - which is also slate grey - has a very subtle green tint.
As far as the satin bronze case is concerned, nothing has changed here. It measures 43 millimetres and develops a charming and individual patina depending on how it is used. The snowflake hands, which have existed since 1969, also remain the same. The Black Bay is home to the MT5601 caliber, which offers a power reserve of around 70 hours, is antimagnetic and COSC-certified. The watch is water-resistant up to 200 meters.
The Black Bay Bronze Slate Grey will be available from April 2019 - optionally with black nubuck leather or textile strap - and will cost CHF 3,850.
Black Bay Chrono S&G
Steel-gold celebrates a renaissance! Last year Tudor launched the first bi-colour models with the three-hand version of the Black Bay. This year, the chronograph of the Black Bay series will be gold-plated. The exciting thing about the Black Bay chronograph in general is that it combines the themes of aquanautics and motorsports.
Firstly, what strikes us is that the chronograph has received a new bezel - now with an aluminium inlay. It still has a tachymeter scale. Like the chronograph pushers and the lugs, the bezel is made of solid gold. The remaining parts of the bracelet consist of a gold coating. In contrast to gold plating, the sheathing has the advantage that it does not suffer from abrasion over time.
With the MT5813 caliber, Tudor provides the watch with a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch and a power reserve of 70 hours. The watch itself should be one of the highlights of Baselworld and is incredibly harmonious and perfectly balanced.
The Black Bay Chrono S&G will be available from June 2019. It will cost CHF 5,350 on a textile or leather strap (with detachable cuff) and CHF 6,500 on a metal strap.
Black Bay 41, 36 and 32 S&G
This year, Tudor is also presenting the entry-level Black-Bays in a steel-gold version. The 41, 36 and 32 millimetre watches are available with either a satin champagne or glossy black dial.
The special feature of the Steel-Gold-Black-Bays is that the gold elements (as with the Black Bay Chrono) are brushed. As a result, despite the bi-colour, the watches do not require bling bling and are therefore probably the most restrained steel-gold watches currently available on the market. Despite their material mix, the watches can be worn as everyday watches for any occasion - whether with a suit or t-shirt. This is exactly the vision that Tudor had in mind when it comes to their new models.
An ETA 2824-2 does its job in the Black Bays. The watches will be available from May 2019 and will cost CHF 3,950 (41 millimetres), CHF 3,850 (36 millimetres) and CHF 3,750 (32 millimetres) respectively.
